We made a cabinet for Clara with things she can play with. She loves "unloading" it.
Our future Jayhawk!
December 13, 2009
Dear Clara,
I really can’t believe you are almost a year old! I have moved from denial to acceptance and have started planning your birthday party. We have even finished our shopping for both your birthday and Christmas. It is my goal to always make you birthday special and separate from Christmas. There will be no commingling of the two—your birthday is such a special day to us, and we want to celebrate what a happy day January 2nd was for our family.
Your biggest milestone this month is the arrival of your first tooth! You’ve also done several other new things. You are now cruising along the furniture, drinking from a sippy cup, eating table food, turning the pages of your books while we read, waving, and holding your own bottle (you know how to do it, but most of the time you prefer for us to hold it). You think it’s really funny to offer Mommy or Daddy your bottle and then pull it back to your mouth. We act like we are going to drink it and then you pull it away from us. We get to laughing which then makes you laugh!
You started your new daycare this month. You spend 3 days with Miss Trish and 2 days at the daycare center. You’ve also started visiting the toddler room at the daycare center. Friday you spent the whole day in the Toddler room, which included circle time and napping on a cot. You napped for two hours on the cot!
Along with the new daycare came a new cold. Ugh—this has been so frustrating for us. You’ve had the cold for 5 weeks and 2 days as of today. You are on your fourth type of antibiotics, you’ve had a sinus infection, and two ear infections (or one ear infection that didn’t go away and necessitated another doctor’s visit). We’ve been to the doctor 3 times, filled 5 prescriptions, and missed 3 days of daycare and work. I won’t go into details about what the third antibiotic caused (which is why we were switched to the fourth kind), but now we’re fighting really bad diaper rash. I feel so awful; I wish I had the magic answer to make it all go away. We’ll keep following the doctor’s orders, and hopefully we’ll get there soon. You’ve had an otherwise very healthy year so I hate to complain. My preference is that you are never sick. I always want you to be healthy happy! We’ve noticed that you are much more cuddly this month. Probably because you haven’t been feeling well, but we love your snuggles.
You took your second big road trip this month to Oklahoma. Your extended family was delighted to meet you. You ate a big Thanksgiving dinner and were happy to get to try lots of new foods. You have trouble chewing meats (due to your lack of teeth), but other than that, you’ll eat just about anything. You are such a good baby. We haven’t been sticking to much of a schedule on the weekends, and you adapt very well. You nap where and when you can and are such a good eater. We’re so thankful that you are such a good baby!
We’ve said many days this month, “I think she looks older today.” “Did she look this grown up when you dropped her off this morning?” You seem to be turning into a little girl right before our eyes. I love this stage we’re in right now, and we’re looking forward to many more fun times ahead. You have a Christmas party at daycare on Friday. Mommy is going to make some treats to take, and you have to take a wrapped book for the gift exchange. Mommy and Daddy are planning to leave work early so we can join you for the party.
Only a few more weeks until you’re 1! We love you lots and are looking forward to celebrating Christmas and your birthday!
Love,
Mommy
