I decided to write this down so that someday we can look back and laugh. Clara is very decisive and insists on making as many decisions as possible by herself. Most mornings we don't find this routine very humorous, but it makes things go more smoothly (i.e. avoids the fit throwing) if we let her choose certain things so we go with it. Each of these decisions is followed by us trying to hurry her along and her saying, "Ummm....." while she's trying to decide. Depending on her mood, this can take way longer than if we were making the decisions for her!
Here's a rundown of the things she insists on deciding on in the mornings:
Clothing
-What clothes to wear (fortunately I've drilled into her head that things need to match, so she'll pick a shirt and then ask "what matches?")
-Pair of socks
-Pull-up and/or panties
-Pair of shoes
-and finally for clothing..the jacket.
Breakfast
-What to eat for breakfast, if cereal then she makes the following choices:
-Type of cereal and she wants to "pick it from your hand" which means that you have to hold two boxes so she can pick one. Lately she's been wanting two kinds of cereal in her bowl.
-What color of spoon
-Bowl
-Cup
-Milk or water
-Oh! And to wipe her hands and face, she likes to choose the wash cloth from the drawer!
When she goes potty, she likes to choose which toilet she wants to use. We have a princess potty, Elmo potty, then there's Mommy's potty, Grandma's potty (toilet in the guest room), and Clara's big potty (toilet in the kid's bathroom). WAY too many options!
She has also tried to choose if she gets to ride in Mommy's car or Daddy's car, but she doesn't get a choice in that. She's also tried to choose if she goes to Miss Trish's or stays home - also something we don't leave up to her to decide.
