Turkey Creek Festival

We have a friend who works for Johnson County Parks & Rec, and she was in charge of organizing the Merriam Turkey Creek Festival this year.  We were lucky she mentioned it to us, and Clara's swimming lesson got cancelled at the last minute, so we decided to check it out.  We had so much fun!  Clara loved it, and we thought it was so well done.  Not too crowded, and there were plenty of things to entertain Clara.  We pushed naptime off as long as possible, but finally Avery wouldn't put up with anymore excitement.

Eating her hotdog like a big girl!  She ate it from the top rather than the side.

Pony rides

The story behind the train is rather cute.  Clara had been in line for a bounce house, and right before it was her turn, the generator started smoking, went out, and the bounce house collapsed (all children got out safely).  So she didn't get to play in the bounce house.  We redirected her attention to the train (above), she waited in line, and then when it was her turn to ride, the train driver got called away to fix the bounce house.  We waited about 15 minutes, but Avery was just DONE so we decided it was time to leave.  So no bounce house and no train ride.  Clara didn't seem too upset, but she's still talking about it, and she'll say, "I was NOT HAPPY!"  It's so funny to hear her tell it because she emphasizes the NOT HAPPY part.  It's tough being 3, especially when you don't get to go into the bounce house or ride the train.  Pretty sure there is no lack of fun in this little girl's life - also good for her to learn that we don't always get what we want.
