Touch-A-Truck

We went to the Blue Valley Parks & Rec's Touch-A-Truck event in Olathe.  Our family had a wide variety of opinions on the event.  Matt wished he could have been there since he was at work.  I thought it was very well done and a great event for kids.  Clara took a bit to warm up to it, but ended up really enjoying checking out the various trucks & equipment.  Avery hated it thought it was baby toture.

Reasons I thought it was such a nice event:  it was limited to children ages 3-6, there was a lot for the kids to see and do, and it wasn't overly crowded.  It was also cool for the kids that they got to honk the horns.  Evan & Jayden (my friends Kate & Julia's sons) thought that part was awesome.  Unfortunately, the loud noises scared Avery.  She was momentarily soothed by animal crackers, but we had to hurry through faster than normal because she was so upset (poor thing!).

The following trucks were on location and available for the kids to climb into (at least the ones I recall):  firetruck, Pepsi truck, FedEx semi, cement truck, trash truck, police cars, bobcat, excavator, dump truck, motor home, Army hummer, and hummer limo.

Clara was being shy and wouldn't get into any of the trucks at first.  The first thing she agreed to get into was the bobcat - something she's familiar with!  She also got right in line to get into the excavator.  Her Uncles would be proud.  I, of course, had to tell the backhoe group that my brothers and sis-in-law works for a backhoe company.  The owner of the backhoe company said they've been to this event for all but 1 year (this was the 7th year), and they really enjoy it.

I asked her to get in the hummer limo and see if it was bigger than my car. 
She said, "Wow!  This is really big!"

Good work BV parks & rec!  We'll mark our calendars for next week and hope that Avery warms up to loud noises by then!
