To My Little Princess,
You just keep getting more and more fun. You are very happy and content, unless of
course, you don’t think we are moving quickly enough when preparing your meals
or when you are ready for bed. As long
as we observe the proper sleeping and feeding times, you are happy as a
clam. You are rolling all over the place
now. You have mastered the progression
of rolling, and we can’t keep you on the blanket. In fact, we’ve mostly stopped putting a
blanket down on the floor because you don’t stay on it anyway and you tend to
get yourself all rolled up in it. You
will roll to get to a toy and have even figured how to scoot backwards. That usually just leads to you getting upset
because you mean to move forward but you don’t know how yet. You are happiest when you are able to move
around. You like the excersaucer and
Johnny jumper (or whatever they are called now-a-days), but mostly you’d just
rather being rolling around on the floor. You like to grab anything and everything! This includes anything of your sister’s (Mom,
she’s grabbing my blanket) and faces (ouch!).
You are so inquisitive and curious to check out anything you can get
your hands on.
You love anything we feed you – baby cereal, any vegetable,
and any fruit. Bring it on! You are a power eater. A typical meal for you includes 5 T. cereal
(rice or oatmeal), 3 cubes of veggies, and 2 cubes of fruit (measured in cubes
because I freeze your baby food in ice cube trays), and part of a bottle of
formula (mostly mixed with your cereal).
We’ve given you some puffs, and you are intrigued by them, but can’t
seem to get them into your mouth. When I
put one in your mouth, you make gagging noises and act like you are
choking. This led me to pry your mouth
open at one point to check it out, but your Daddy was right that you were just
being dramatic.
Biggest accomplishment of the month, you started SLEEPING
THROUGH THE NIGHT. We’re talking 7pm to
6:30am! This is most nights – sometimes
we have to reinsert the binky once during the night because you have kicked all
SIX of them out of the bed. We put a fan
in your room for white noise and have started giving you a bottle at 10pm
before we go to bed. You are really
annoyed by this and act very put out when we remove you from your blissful
slumber. Maybe we can reach a compromise
– you don’t wake us up at 4am hungry and we won’t wake you up to feed you at
10pm. Sound good? For now it’s working so we’ve continued the
late feedings, but we may try to slowly phase that out and hope for no early
morning food calls.
You and your sister are something else. I wouldn’t have imagined that your bond would
start so young, but it’s been really cool to see. I have learned to take you with me in the
mornings when I wake her up. She is
cranky when she gets woken up, but as soon as she sees you, she gets all
excited, smiles, and starts talking baby talk in this super high-pitched voice,
“Oh Avery, hi, I love you Avery, you’re so special my little baby…” She says it all very fast too so, which makes
it’s hard to decipher. You eat it
up. Your eyes light up when you see her
and you get a huge, huge smile on your face.
Of course your Daddy and I love you more than you can imagine, but it’s
so rewarding to see how much you and your sister love each other already, when
you can’t formally communicate. You will
coo at her; she’ll make the same cooing noise back; then you’ll make it again. It’s like listening to creatures that have
their own language.
I’m glad you are you and that you are ours. We’re so lucky.
Love, love, love,
Your Mommy
